Topponcino Covers with Designer Fabric…

 
 
 
Yes. I recently did a designer fabric topponcino from Merimekko fabric line and it was a lot of fun. I had so much fun creating this topponcino for a client in Japan. I know Crate and Barrel does a wonderful job in creating beautiful pieces with this lovely print which I have come to love recently.

Here are some of the custom made topponcino covers that I made. I wish I had an opportunity to work with all the three prints I meant to say sizes of the print. I would love to see how this is going to work in a fabric ball.

I also found out that this fabric so expensive in Japan comparing to states. Matter of fact I had few more customers request me to make more designer fabric topponcinos…. I personally think it is a great way add some character to your new ones nursery.

Topponcino with Many Layers

 
 
I had the opportunity to make some custom orders very recently. I was asked to make the topponcino into a certain weight. I made the topponcino to 300g and it worked It was challenging to get the all the layers together. Fun thing is I did it and now I have add that as a new item for those who are looking for extra layers.

Why do you need extra layers if you are in colder climates this is ideal, If you want to give that extra cushion this is great, and if you want your newborn to be cuddly this is GREAT!

You might want to know waht goes in here same all natural un- bleached cotton batting. Only difference is this topponcino has many layers. Cover material is the same un-bleach muslin.

I meant to blog on this for a while however with the work load an everything else this project got buried. However I did not want to forget about this wonderful addition that I made to my online store. Those who are into Montessori and new to Montessori way of life would love to have a little bit of color in their nurseries. After few requests I decided to introduce printed topponcino colors.

I do love and adore the original white topponcino cover which is always in high demand but I also like to see some new prints once in a while to see beautiful designs and new colors…

 I wanted to write this article in order to give some information about this wonderful must have item for a baby nursery. When you are assembling the layette for your newborn we go through so many resources. I remember I personally went through so many and did research and read many parent magazines from doctors office, consulted friends and family, read all the books.

Only few books offer the Montessori approach designing a nursery for an infant. Having the A to I training and all the resources I was one of the lucky person to offer this environment for my daughter. I do sell this item through my etsy shop people who are seeking for Montessori education as well as build the trust for their newborn.

Some of the common questions using a topponcino were

How long is the Topponcino useful? This is a good question ideally you need to use this during first 2-3 months. (as the infant gain muscle control to hold his/her head topponcino offers an ideal support to the infant)) The reason behind is topponcino act like a security blanket for the newborn. It carries the smell and the familiarity so the infant feels secure with direct and non- direct family members.

During the first few weeks we were traveling with our baby and I used it very much she was happy and secure. I also used this when I was aiding my daughter to wean off the bassinet to her sleeping mattress.
Older siblings feel insecure to hold the infant how can I address this issue? This is the best way to help the older siblings to hold the infant. They do feel secure with proper guidance and help to hold the baby with the topponcino.

Do parents need to use the topponcino to hold the baby? I am a big advocate when it comes to this question that it is very important that parents hold the baby without the topponcino. Your newborn/infant needs to have the experience held by you. Parent’s direct touch is very important in the early stage development. Additionally it plays a key role in bonding. There have been numerous researches done on this topic. This memory of bonding and touching registers in the infant’s kinesthetic memory. As the newborn grows and develop he/she revisit this memory.

Topponcino/Security Blancket...

Hello my friends and loved ones, I love to blog on items I made. Sometimes I called them goodies. I made this security blanket for my baby when she was kicking inside my tummy I mean it. Yesterday I was at the post office rushing to get the Christmas cards and some other important documents, while I was standing and waiting very patiently in the line which is long all most to the entrance. I know with the budget cutting down they cannot hire enough people to staff the holiday season so no matter what time you show up at the post office it's going to take a while. Well my point is there was a mother with three kids behind me standing on the line with another tiny one kicking inside her... she was explaining to me her baby was very active, this brought back some memories of my pregnancy and what I made...

So I made this for my little one it's called a Topponcino I hope the automated dictionary will accept this because normally Microsoft gives similar words as cappuccino which is what we called it most of the time when we were making them at the Montessori training...

It originated from Italy, with close observation from Montessori philosophy I would like to say. But it is a safe heaven for tiny babies I have used it by myself for my little one, talked to many people who have used this, friends, family, follow Montessori's...

This is made out of 100% layers of cotton batting, and cotton fabric it is very comfortable yet flexible allows the newborn to be in a safe heaven. It works wonders when you have company over to see the new bundle of joy. Specially passing the baby from one person to other and the baby still feels safe from all the coos and ah's. I have to admit older kids feels safe to handle the baby on the Topponcino.
One of the other things we did was we traveled a whole lot after the baby, We would always take the Topponcino with us so even in the most strangest place baby felt comfortable and slept through the night it does make a big difference I have to admit.

I took the liberty to custom make it according to my needs, I chose flannel covers during winter and cotton throughout spring and varied the colors and it did not make a big impact on the baby. It does act like a security blanket for the baby as well as to the adults knowing your baby is going to be fine during nights even if you have to stay away from your home/environment which is the KEY factor for babies...
